Lila School of Bands is a performance-based music school in Auckland, specialising in structured band programs and music lessons for young musicians.
We don’t just teach songs.
We build confident performers.
Bands Are What We Do
Many music schools focus solely on individual music lessons — guitar lessons, singing lessons, keyboard lessons or drum lessons taught one-on-one.
At Lila, private music lessons are available, but our core focus is our structured Band Program.
Students rehearse weekly in real bands, guided by working professional musicians. They learn how to:
- Play tightly and confidently with others
- Listen and respond musically in real time
- Communicate effectively within a group
- Lead when needed and support when required
- Perform with confidence on stage
This practical, performance-driven approach sets us apart from traditional music lessons.

Performance Is the Foundation
Every term, our bands perform live at established Auckland music venues such as Big Fan and The Tuning Fork.
These aren’t informal recitals.
They are real gigs — with professional sound systems, stage lighting and live audiences.
By the time our students finish high school, they’ve already experienced what many musicians don’t until their twenties.
Our Bands Win Rockquest
Not one, but two Lila acts have won the National Final of Smokefree Rockquest in recent years.

As of 2025, Lila is proud to be partnered with Smokefree Rockquest, delivering specialist band coaching to National Finalists, ongoing support to first place winners, and band development resources to help young artists put their best foot forward on the day.
